Let's Sing and Play Book 2 begins with the popular LETTER NOTATION of Book 1, assuming the ability to play eleven pitches: D-C-B-Bb-A-G-F#-F-E-D-C. Book 2 offers a fascinating array of folk, holiday, and patriotic songs, interspersed with rounds, calypso songs and symphony and opera themes. All are worthy of a permanent place of students' singing, playing, and listening reportories. Each of the 29 selections in Book 2 introduces a new rhythm concept, word or symbol. Lets sing and Play Book 2 is a hands-on direct approach to rhythm notation.
Rhythm notation is more difficult to assismilate than pitch notation and requires much more practice. The correlated Rhythm and Pitch Notation Charts, shown on page 7, presents dozens of opportunities for applying and drilling the new knowledge in simple but challenging examples.
Book 2 offers hints of reading pitches from the staff, but students can gain quick mastery of pitch notation from the worksheets of Let's Write and Read Music or My Write and Read Music Workbook , described above
As they play along with the colorful cassette by Greg Rolla and Steve Frost, students gain a strong backround in rhythm notation. You can put on a wonderful performance using the cassette of accompaniments.
